The Cozy Season Is Here! Discover Simple and Creative Ways to Transform Your Home into an Autumn Haven
Fall has just begun my favorite season. I love the beautiful colors in nature, and I enjoy walking more now. Yesterday, I found my first pineapple of the year, baked it for 30 minutes to clean it, and used it for decoration.
Why not bring this lovely season into our homes? Decorating doesn't have to be expensive. Here are 6 simple ideas to create the warm feeling we love this time of year.
1. Choose a special space in your home.
I always suggest starting with the space that you enjoy the most in your home; it can be the living room, bedroom, balcony, etc. This way, you can feel more comfortable, identify your preferred decoration style, and establish a starting point regarding color palettes, lighting, and fabrics for the rest of your home.
Another tip is to create that "special nook" in your home, a designated area for enjoying your morning coffee or tea, meditating, or journaling. This corner should reflect your personality where you can unwind and recharge. By focusing on these spaces, you’ll set a foundation for harmonizing the overall aesthetic of your home, making the rest of the design process more intuitive and enjoyable.
2. Fabrics, Fabrics and more Fabrics.
Now that the mornings are starting to get colder, it's time to get the cushions, blankets, and plaids out of the closets.
Plaids and blankets: Place plaids on your sofa and bed, and choose neutral tones that match the furniture and other fabrics in the space.
Cushions and quilts: Change the covers of your cushions for ones with autumnal tones, here you can play with various colors and opt for yellow, neutral, orange, green, and brown tones.
Change your storage: If you have storage baskets in your space, replace them with natural materials such as rattan, wicker, or wood.
3. Autumn lighting.
Lighting is a key point when we want to create a different atmosphere for a space. To make your spaces feel cozier without adding an extra electrical point on your wall you can:
Place in the side tables wireless table lamps, there are many on the internet with natural materials such as wood and you can adjust the lighting levels.
Replace your existing lampshades or table lamps with ones that match the shades of the textiles you have chosen.
Add more warm light: Choose to add sconces in the spaces where you feel they need more lighting, there are wireless, rechargeable sconces that can adjust the color levels (adjustable).
4. Autumn Scents.
With scented candles, we can create a different atmosphere in the space and we can generate sensations of relaxation, freshness, and tranquility. To enhance your liv space in the Algarve this season, consider incorporating these autumn scents through natural materials. Scented candles made from soy wax, essential oils, or even simmering spices on the stove can create an inviting ambiance.
Use scented candles with fall fragrances such as cinnamon, apple or vanilla. Essential oil diffusers are also excellent for creating an aromatic ambiance.
If sweet scents aren't your preference, choose citrus, floral, or spicy aromas instead. The aim is to create a warm atmosphere using the glow of the candles.
5: Dress your windows.
Curtains are unique to finish dressing a space and make it even more cozy.
Make sure the curtains match the other fabrics in the room, like the sofa, cushions, throws, and rugs.
It's easy to choose neutral colors like beige, white, and gray, but we can also mix in different fabrics. Floral prints are popular right now.
Use natural fabrics for your curtains, like linen, cotton, or jute. You can layer them by mixing lighter and heavier materials, such as a sheer curtain with a heavier one.
Integrating rich textures and colors into your space—such as deep oranges, warm browns, and mustard yellows—can visually represent the essence of autumn, making your home feel even more welcoming. You can add this
6: Styling.
You don't need a lot of accessories to achieve an autumnal decoration. Depending on the space, one or a couple of items is more than enough.
If you enjoy making things by hand, there are plenty of simple tutorials and videos to create fall decorations using common materials found at home.
You can find affordable decor items on sites like Etsy and Amazon. My favorites include synthetic and porcelain pumpkins, wooden picture frames, fall wreaths, and candles.
I hope you like these ideas that will help you feel more cozy and warm at home this season.
